MIFOTRA NPIP & Young Professional Program (YPP) 2026 – Internship Opportunities for Fresh Graduates
The Ministry of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA) has released operational guidelines for the National Professional Internship Program (NPIP) and the Young Professional Program (YPP), offering fresh graduates an opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience and professional skills.
Program Objectives
- Improve employability and professional skills of graduates.
- Strengthen workplace learning.
- Support implementation of NST2 and Workplace Learning Policy.
- Bridge the gap between education and employment.
- Prepare graduates for future careers.
Available Internship Streams
- National Professional Internship Program (NPIP)
- Community-Based Internships
- Project-Based Internships
- Special Academic Internships
Internship Duration
The standard internship duration is 6 months and may be extended up to 12 months for priority sectors and specialized fields.
Eligibility Requirements
Fresh Graduates
- Must be Rwandan citizens.
- Graduated from Higher Learning Institutions or TVET institutions (A1 and above).
- Application must be made within two years after graduation.
Refugee Graduates
- Must possess a valid refugee identification document.
International Students
- Must be legally studying in Rwanda.
- Must be self-sponsored.
Special Academic Internships
- Must be enrolled in a Higher Learning Institution or TVET institution.
- Must possess rare or specialized skills.
- Must have an internship agreement.
- Must align with national priorities.
Eligible Host Institutions
- Government institutions
- Districts and local government entities
- Private companies
- MSMEs
- NGOs
- Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs)
- Civil Society Organizations
- International organizations
Financial Facilitation
- 50,000 RWF monthly transport facilitation.
- Special Academic Internship stipend of at least 100,000 RWF.
- Host institutions cover fieldwork expenses.
Young Professional Program (YPP)
The YPP targets graduates with specialized and critical skills needed in strategic sectors. Participants benefit from mentorship, structured placement, competency assessments, and professional development opportunities.
Responsibilities of Interns
- Respect workplace ethics and regulations.
- Maintain professional conduct.
- Submit final reports.
- Communicate challenges promptly.
- Complete assigned responsibilities.
Responsibilities of Host Institutions
- Assign mentors and supervisors.
- Provide a conducive working environment.
- Offer training opportunities.
- Submit monthly and final evaluations.
- Cover internship-related field expenses.
Completion & Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive official certification after submitting final reports and performance evaluations.
